Plantain


             In the United States plantain is called “a white man’s trace”, because it can be found everywhere: in the roads, fields, gardens, and parks.
      The curative properties of plantain were known to ancient Greeks and Romans. This plant was appreciated by the Arab and Persian physicians. Avicenna used plantain leaves as a styptic, as well as they were used for the treatment of urticaria, and the seeds - of hemoptysis. Men should pay special attention to this plant. It is a very good thing for curing prostate, and impotency.
      For therapeutic purposes, the plantain leaves are mostly used. They contain resin, protein, the bitter tannins, vitamins C, K, carotene, acids, polysaccharides, tannin, traces of mineral salts with a predominance of potassium and other substances.
      Juice of fresh plant is used to treat gastrointestinal diseases.
However plantain juice thickens blood. Some specialists say seeds of this plant are dangerous for brain. So consult your doctor before taking it.
      Young tender leaves of a plantain are used in salads, combined with onions, potatoes, nettles and horseradish.
